Looking for a dog-friendly day night out in Manchester with a difference? How about taking your dog to an aquarium?!

We recently swapped our usual Friday-night plans for something considerably more aquatic when myself, Lindsey and Alice from The Dogs Paddocks headed to SEA LIFE Manchester with the pups for their fantastic Paws Beneath the Waves event.

And we can confirm — it was absolutely fin-tastic! 🐶🦈🐠

Yes — on selected dates!

Dogs aren't normally permitted inside SEA LIFE Manchester, which is exactly what makes Paws Beneath the Waves so unusual

For these specia lafter-hours sessions, SEA LIFE opens its doors to dogs and their humans, allowing you to explore the aquarium together

And honestly, there aren't many Friday nights where you find yourself wandering past sharks, rays and turtles with your dog trotting alongside you! 😂

‍🦈 Our P aws Beneath the Waves experience

Friday night certainly looked a little different for some of The Dogs Paddocks team!

Myself, Lindsey and Alice headed into Manchester with the pups to see what Paws Beneath the Waves was all about

Who needs the pub when you can spend your Friday night surrounded by sharks? 😂🦈

We were able to wander through the aquarium after hours with the dogs, taking in all the amazing underwater creatures along the way

There were colourful tropical fish, graceful rays, turtles and, of course, plenty of sharks

One of our favourite parts had to be the incredible Ocean Tunnel, where you can walk underneath the enormous aquarium with marine life swimming above and around you

But perhaps even more entertaining was watching the dogs taking everything in! 🐶🐠

It was such an unusual environment for them to explore and made the whole experience even morememorable

‍🍦 Andthere were PUP CUPS!

Obviously, no proper dog-friendly outing is complete without refreshments for the dogs

SEA LIFE had thought of that too!

There were pup cups available from Ernie's Shell Shack, giving our four-legged guests the opportunity to enjoy a little treat of their own 🍦🐾

There were refreshments available for the humans too, so thankfully nobody had to go hungry!

🐕 What are the rules for bringing your dog?

Because this is an aquarium rather than your typical dog-friendly attraction, there are understandably a few rules in place to make sure everyone — dogs, humans and sea creatures included — can enjoy the evening

Dogs must remain on a fixed lead throughout the centre. If you use an extendable or retractable lead, it needs to be kept fixed

There must also be one adult for every dog, and dogs cannot be left under the supervision of children

Bookings can include a maximum of two dogs and four humans

We'd also suggest considering your individual dog's temperament before booking. An aquarium can be an unusual environment, with different lighting, sounds, people and animals to take in

If your dog is happy exploring new places and environments, though, it's certainly a very different adventure!

In short…

🐾 PAWS BENEATH THE WAVES GETS A BIG PAWS-UP FROM US!

It was such a wonderfully unusual way to spend a Friday evening

Dog-friendly days outdon't always have to mean a walk followed by finding the nearest pub with awater bowl outside

Being able to take thedogs somewhere completely different and experience an attraction like SEA LIFEManchester together was brilliant

And obviously, we couldn't resist a few terrible aquatic puns along the way…

🐟 Was it o-fish-ially a brilliant evening? ✔️

🐳 Did we have a whale of a time? ✔️

🐾 Was it un-fur-gettable? Absolutely😂

It was definitely a Friday night we'd happily do again

‍🐶 We want MORE dog-friendly events like this!

One of the biggest things we took away from the evening was just how brilliant it is to see major attractions creating dedicated events for dog owners

There are thousands of us who plan our weekends, days out and even holidays around places where our dogs can come too

So we'd love to see more attractions, museums, gardens, light trails and visitor experiences following suit and introducing special dog-friendly sessions and events

If SEA LIFE Manchester can let the dogs meet the sharks, who knows where we'll be taking them next?! 🐶🦈
